Hand-woven
oriental rugs date back thousands of years. No one knows with
certainty when the first rug was woven. But it must have been
made out of necessity to make homes more comfortable and secure.
As skills increased, the rugs acquired colors and designs that
were pleasing and reminded owners of the beauties of nature even
when the seasons denied the same.
Classical oriental rugs often
have realistic representations of beautiful flowers and bring
the glories of nature inside to be enjoyed. Some have
religious motifs and other designs of significance to the weaver
and on occasion, the design may be pictorial. |
